Hello bookworms!

We had an interesting discussion in October for our DRUUMM NonFiction Book Club Group! In it we discussed Part III of Empire of AI: Dreams and Nightmares in Sam Altman's OpenAI by Karen Hao. Our discussion centered on the overarching effects of AI, the expansion of data centers, how society will react, and in particular, its impact on the environment.

For November, we will read Part IV which is pages 341 to 421 if you are using the Hardcover Edition. This is our last set of readings which will result in us completing this incredible work of journalism by Karen Hao! Please register for information on how to partake in the final discussion of this book on Sunday, November 23. We hope you can join us!

In the DRUUMM Book Club, DRUUMM members read books geared towards social justice, civil rights, dismantling oppression, understanding colonialism, and facilitating the formation of revolutionary ideals. Below is a list of books that could be our next read. These are suggestions that will be brought up in our next meeting, please look into the ones you are interested in. We are not limited to these four books, so please bring your own recommendations for our next read to discuss with the group.

Next Book Club Reads?

  • Revolusi: Indonesia and the Birth of the Modern World by David Van Reybrouck
  • Open Veins of Latin America by Eduardo Galeano
  • Red Skin, White Masks: Rejecting the Colonial Politics of Recognition by Glen Sean Coulthard
  • Che Guevara: A Revolutionary Life by Jon Lee Anderson

The DRUUMM Book Club is for members of DRUUMM only. If you would like to invite a friend to join the book discussion, make sure they are registered with DRUUMM. If you would like to get regular emails regarding book club meetings, please email outreach@druumm.org and say that you would like to be added to the mailing list.

See you on the page,
