We are deeply honored to present Rev. Dr. Bill Sinkford as he shares his Elder Spiritual Odyssey, a special event for DRUUMM Members, BIPOC friends, and White allies. This gathering is more than a storytelling session; it is a sacred space created to uplift the journeys of our elders who have shaped and strengthened Unitarian Universalism through their wisdom, activism, and leadership.

This Elder Spiritual Odyssey aligns with DRUUMM's vision of building a multigenerational, multicultural community where we honor and learn from the experiences of those who have paved the way. The purpose of this gathering is to deepen our connections, recognize the spiritual discipline of reconciliation, and inspire future leaders by connecting the struggles of the past with the hopes for tomorrow. As Bill reflects on his life’s work, participants will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue, drawing lessons and inspiration that resonate with their own journeys. This event is now open to all.

In this intimate setting, we embody DRUUMM’s value of being conscious of history—preserving and sharing the lived stories of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in Unitarian Universalism. Together, we will form a circle to hold and honor these stories, building a bridge between generations and cultivating a deeper collective identity. This event is an invitation to reflect on the shared spirit of resilience, community, and justice that defines our work and purpose.

We invite you to join us for this powerful evening and become a part of the ongoing story of liberation and transformation.

About Our Honored Elder Rev. Dr. Bill Sinkford

Rev. Dr. William “Bill” Sinkford is a lifelong Unitarian Universalist, a founding leader of DRUUMM, a member of the African American UU Ministries, and the first African American to serve as President of the Unitarian Universalist Association (2001–2009). In 2010 Bill was called as Senior Minister of First Unitarian Church of Portland, where he was named Minister Emeritus in 2022. In 2017 Bill was called back to the UUA as one of three Interim Co-Presidents at a time of denominational crisis. Failing at retirement, Transitional Ministry at All Souls Unitarian in DC and sabbaticfal ministries at several congregations have kept him involved in the work of our faith. Throughout his decades of ministry, Rev. Sinkford has been a prophetic voice for racial justice, inclusive language, and spiritual renewal. He has guided the UUA and congregations through moments of crisis and transformation, helping nurture a deeper vocabulary of reverence and covenant. A gifted pastor, leader, and mentor, he continues to inspire and guide new generations of Unitarian Universalists.

About Us
