As BIPOC Unitarian Universalists, our faith teaches us that liberation unfolds not only in the struggles of the present but in the sacred rhythms of our lives. We are the inheritors of ancestors who carried fire through the night, who held on to wisdom through exile and oppression, who nurtured love in places where the world tried to deny it.

In each stage of life—youth, adulthood, caregiving, oldering/eldering, and the tender crossroads in between—we embody a fragment of the divine story of becoming. Our lives testify that liberation is not a destination but a lifelong practice, shaped by resilience, creativity, and interdependence. Together, we gather to honor these stages, to weave them into a shared vision where every age and every body of color belongs to the circle of collective freedom.

This year’s Fall DRUUMM Caucus invites us to reflect, honor, and connect across these stages—building a movement where every age and every season of life is cherished as part of the liberatory whole. Moderated by Karishma Gottfried, Karin Lin and Linda Russell. Chaplain by Rev. Leslie Takahashi.

DRUUMM California will hold a breakout session following the Fall Caucus. Please indicate whether you will join in the registration form.

What to Expect

You can expect a rich and interactive gathering: we will open with music, ritual, and centering words, then hear short testimonies from BIPOC UUs across different life stages. Participants will join small breakout circles—choosing the group that resonates most, from Youthful Fire to Eldering & Wisdom, Parenting & Caregiving, or Crossroads & Transitions—where we’ll reflect on what sustains us and the wisdom we share. Together we’ll return for a collective harvest and ritual of blessing across generations, closing with reflection, music, and an invitation to continue building intergenerational DRUUMM spaces.

Why This Matters

This caucus grows out of our recent community survey, where members expressed longing for connection across identities and life stages, a deeper grounding in UU history and practices, and less isolation in our journeys. We are seeking to live more fully into our UU identity—defined not only by what we left behind but by the liberatory faith which we are instrumental in creating.

Whether you come with the fire of youth, the sustaining love of caregiving, the resilience of elderhood, or the searching questions of transition—you are welcome here. Your story belongs in this circle.

This event is BIPOC-centered, a sacred space reserved for those who identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color and UU or interested in Unitarian Universalism. DRUUMM recognizes every Community of Color is impacted differently, and each community maintains its own unique identity and culture. BIPOC/People of Color/Person of Color/Community of Color is a political identity of survival and being in resistance to racism and colonialism, one that builds solidarity and creates positive change. White allies with questions or concerns are strongly encouraged to reach out to Allies for Racial Equity.

About Us

DRUUMM is Unitarian Universalism’s oldest and largest People of Color collective. We are a front door for new people and a spiritual home that enriches our liberal religious tradition.
