We Count What Matters Orientations

For 25+ years, DRUUMM has been a beacon for transformation within Unitarian Universalism, advocating for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) UUs. This September, we're launching a pilot racial demographic survey to gather key insights about our community.

Why Volunteer?

1. Historical Impact: Contribute to a deeper understanding of our BIPOC community.

2. Connect & Collaborate: Forge connections with fellow DRUUMM members, working unitedly for change.

3. Skills & Analysis: Engage in mutual learning and tool development.

Context:

DRUUMM serves over 1,000 BIPOC UUs annually and supports 50 BIPOC UU groups in Canada and the USA. However, a lack of standardized racial/ethnic data collection has led to misconceptions. Most faith institutions conduct regular racial/ethnic censuses, except for the Unitarian Universalist Association and the Canadian Unitarian Council.

Mission: Change the narrative. We count what matters, emphasizing the importance of intentional actions supported by accurate data.

Call to Action:

If you're passionate about a diverse and inclusive UU community and can volunteer a few hours weekly for the next two months, leading local data collection in your congregation, we need you. Your commitment combined with precise data collection will be a transformative force for our faith.

Commitment:

  • 1 hour Orientation
  • Several hours of study, preparation, and planning with congregational leadership
  • Several hours each week identifying folks via Sunday Service and other ways in the congregation
  • 1 hour Debrief

Reserve your spot in one of the listed orientations. Special 1-on-1 sessions are also available upon request. Join us in making history!
