Pacific Cluster Gathering - 2nd Wednesdays

DRUUMM is working with members to host a new monthly Pacific Cluster gathering for members and interested BIPOC friends centered in the Pacific Time Zone region to connect. We see this as building out our ecosystem of meaningful, safe places to meet as Unitarian Universalist Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. We will be sharing stories and supporting one another in our work to advance the anti-racist, anti-oppressive, multicultural mission of DRUUMM to transform Unitarian Universalism.

We will gather virtually via zoom - details and link to be provided upon registration.

Facilitators: 

Juana Ventura is a DRUUMM member active at the UU Congregation of Fullerton for the last 25 years. "I am a first generation Mexican-American, one of six children whose parents came to the USA in their late teens. I attended my first UU service in college and was instantly attracted to the principles. My husband and I chose to raise our 3 children in the UU tradition. Although I am connected to the UU Principles, I have often felt the lack of diversity in our members and the absence of BIPOC voices. A couple of years ago, my daughter and I joined with a few other to bring attention to the 8th principle and bring adoption of this principle to fruition. The 8th Principle was adopted but I still felt it was more than a bit performative. I would like to hold community with other BIPOC UUs to have a safe place to meet, share stories and organize a group that can change the culture of our UU Congregations to a place where BIPOC are not only part of congregations but can be seen worship and in paying leadership positions."

Sarita Gonzales is a DRUUMM member active at the UU Church of the Desert of Coachella Valley. She has been a Unitarian Universalist since 1997 and has been an active member of Starr King UU Church in Hayward and the First Unitarian Church of San Jose, all in California. She helped start the BIPOC at her local congregation. She finds much comfort and revitalization by participating in DRUUM activities and is looking forward with anticipation to join other BIPOC congregational leaders for new ideas, support and fellowship.
